IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lowell "Coach"
Edward Roumph
January 22, 1940 – December 14, 2017
Lowell "Coach" Edward Roumph, 77, of Sterling CO passed away on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 in Sterling. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, Dec. 19 at the Bank of Colorado Event Center main gymn at N.J.C. with Rev. Michelle D. Witherspoon officiating.
Lowell was born on January 22, 1940 in Wahoo, Nebraska to Harold and Sylvlia (Krause) Roumph. He married Judy Settles on June 15, 1963 in Cedar Bluffs, Nebr.
In 1962, Lowell began his teaching and coaching career in Columbus, Nebr. where he coached high school basketball. He came to N.J.C. in 1968 as an assistant coach and became men's head basketball coach in 1982. During this time, he achieved over 720 wins in 34 years, and was inducted into the NJCAA Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003.
The greatest gauge of his success was not the wins and losses, but the number of people he touched, and the players that also became coaches.
He was a fixture and legend at NJC, and in retirement he looked for any excuse to be there. The locker room and basketball court are named in his honor.
Lowell is survived by his wife Judy, children Diane Roumph of Ft Collins, CO, Eric (Aimee) Roumph of Denver, CO, Mike Roumph of Pueblo, CO and Tessa, Sam & Austin Roumph of Sterling, CO; grandchildren Olivia & Alec Roumph, Josh Moser, Conner Roumph, Max Roumph, Chayse Roumph, and great-grandchild Remi Moser. Preceding Lowell in death are his parents, stepdad, and son Steven Scott Roumph.
