Obituary

Loren G. Good Loren George Good, 86, of Sterling, died Friday, March 12, 2010, in Brush. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, March 15, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Derek DeToni-Hill officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Loren was born Aug. 8, 1923, to Roy E. and Dora M. (Couch) Good in a farm house near Merino. He was the oldest of five children, the others being William Claude, Phillip Ray, Kenneth Lee and Charlotte Elizabeth. He attended elementary school at Happy Valley, Hill Crest, Merino and Atwood, and graduated from Willard High School in 1941. He was a member of the first NJC class and received his baccalaureate degree from the University of Nebraska in 1949, as well as a Master of Agricultural Economics in 1953.

Between August 1944 and October 1946, he served as a corporal in the U.S. Army, 534th Air Engineering Squadron in the Philippine Islands (Luzon), where he receiv ed several citations and decorations.

He farmed near Merino for 10 years, and worked with the USDA Soil Conservation Service in Lincoln, Neb., Grand Junction, Flagler and Akron for a total of 25 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, CUMC Golden Ringers Hand Bell Choir, Sterling Genealogy Society, Farmers Union, various Lions Clubs and was an Honorary Chapter Farmer of Akron FFA, where he helped plan and direct range judging contests for about 19 years. He also sang in several church choirs, and his favorite hobby was restoring old John Deere tractors.

He married Marjorie Elaine Thomas in Wauneta, Neb., on Aug. 17, 1951. They were married for 58 1/2 years. To this union, five children were born: Glen Edward, George Everett, Gena Gaylene (Karg), Gayla Jolene (Griese) and GleeAnn Lynette (Kehr).

He is survived by his wife and children and their spouses, Cathy Good, Kathy Good, Jim Karg, Paul Griese and Tom Kehr. There are also 17 grandchildren, Shannon Talich and husband Lance, Amy St. Clair and husband Jay, Alissa Krafft and husband Eric, Mandee Webb and husband Ben, Andrea Orin and husband Jay, Jennifer Green and Mark Rodine, Jule Green, JacQue Green and Derek Bandy, Stacey Karg and Asa Carpenter, Jake Karg, Bob Griese and wife Chelce, Brenda Griese and John Harris, Tony Griese, Jackie Kehr, Jessica Kehr, Jordan Kehr and Jason Kehr; and four great-grandchildren, Annaliese Orin, Brandon Talich, Andrew Griese and Sydney Harris. He is also survived by sister, Charlotte Harryman and husband Keith; sisters-in-law, Ramona Good, Sue Jo Good, Agatha Brandt; and brother- and sister-in-law, Ivan Thomas and wife Arthea; foster brother, Bob Burk and wife Pat; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Claude, Philip and Kenneth; and sister-in-law, Barbara Good.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or the Hope Scholarship at Northeastern Junior College.
