Lois was born in Fargo, North Dakota July 23, 1947, to Edward and Dorothea Biwer. In 1967 she married the love of her life, James McMahon in Argusville, North Dakota, and from that union she was blessed with six children.
Lois grew up in Gardner, North Dakota. She graduated from St Francis Academy in Hankinson, North Dakota. She graduated from Lake Region State College in Devils Lake North Dakota with her nursing degree. Jim and Lois settled to raise their family in Arthur North Dakota. Lois dedicated her career to taking care of the elderly. In 1988 she moved to Sterling Colorado where she completed her 30-year career as a night nurse at Devonshire Acres.
Lois was devoted to her catholic faith, having been a past CCD teacher, and an officer for Catholic Daughters. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, took Communion to the homebound, and led the Rosary at the nursing homes. She was a past president of the Sterling Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. Lois was also involved with the Parotitic Order of Does and served as past president. She was able to be a tissue donor and will continue to bless others in need.
Lois had the biggest heart and gave unselfishly. She loved making others smile and laugh and the light around her was contagious. She was the strongest shoulder to lean on and gave the best advice. She was her children's fiercest defender and strongest supporter. That loyalty extended to others for which she deeply cared. She looked forward to her yearly trip to Deadwood and spontaneous trips with her children, nieces and nephews. Lois always had a Word Find book nearby or a deck of cards to play solitaire. She could often be found crocheting or hand sewing a blanket for a loved one. Man, you were the lucky one to be receiving one of those blankets! Lois was a lifelong fan of Johnny Cash and John Wayne, enjoyed watching Columbo and Snapped, and attending Bronco games. She adored the color purple, and her favorite part of the day was breakfast with Jim.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Ed T. McMahon (2021), John M. McMahon (2019) and her parents.
Lois is survived by her husband, James McMahon, children: Laura and husband Steve Roberts, Mary McMahon, Kathy and husband Kelley Reinhardt, Donna and husband Mark Bothwell.
