Lillian Kautz Lillian Kautz, 93, of Iliff, passed away March 3, 2011, in Loveland. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, at Chaney-Reager, with the Rev. Daniel Larson officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Lillian was born June 17, 1917, to Carl and Lydia (Weitzel) Kaufman in Mitchell, Neb. The family moved to Iliff in 1922 and then to Atwood in 1935. She attended Dillon School and graduated from Iliff High Shcool in 1935.
On March 6, 1938, she married the love of her life, Fred Kautz. She lived in the Iliff/Proctor area most of her life, where she and Fred farmed for more than 60 years.
As a young girl, Lillian was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Sterling. She and Fred were two of the charter members of Faith Lutheran Church in Crook, where they were active members for many years before becoming members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, Neb. Her faith was a large part of her entire life.
Lillian enjoyed sewing, gardening (she loved flowers), and especially playing cards. Her long-time special friend, Rachel Schuppe, and their spouses spent many years playing cards. Family and friends were very important to her as she kept up with their activities right up to the end.
Survivors include two daughters, Arlene Bournia of Loveland and fiancé Ray Liesman of Greeley, Karen Kautz of Iliff; two grandsons, Michael Bournia and wife Lynn of Iliff, Gregory Bournia of Loveland; two great-granddaughters, Sara and Emily Bournia of Iliff; two sisters, Violet Schaffer of Sterling and Alene Brown of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Florence Kaufman of Sterling; and nine nieces and nephews.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Fred; her son-in-law, Tony Bournia; her parents, Carl and Lydia; two brothers, Herbert and Elmer; infant sister, Joann; two brothers-in-law, Harley Brown and Elmer Shaffer; and sister-in-law, Charleen Kaufman.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, or the charity of donor's choice.
