Obituary

Les Ellsworth, 77 of Sterling passed away Monday, September 22, 2025. Viewing will be held from 1-7 p.m., Thursday, September 25, at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with family to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 26, at Sterling Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Chris Rose officiating. Les will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.

Les was born on February 13, 1948, in Yuma, Colorado to Glen and Velma (Sauer) Ellsworth. He grew up on the family farm in Joes, Colorado.

Les graduated from Liberty High School in 1966 and continued his studies at Northeastern Junior College. While attending college, he met Bev Cullip and the couple were married on August 23, 1968, at the Sterling Church of the Nazarene. While in college, Les worked at Mead Lumber and then later was employed at Stickney's where he worked at the parts counter.

Les was drafted into the U.S. Army in July of 1970 and served his country in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in January 1972. Upon his return home he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a letter carrier for 42 years. Les enjoyed working with his hands, which included restoring old tractors, farming, and finding a way to fix anything.

Music was a favorite hobby which included singing with the Barber Shoppers Christmas Chorus. He was always ready to sing at church whether it was a solo, duet, trio or his favorite, a quartet, namely the Nazareth Four; in which he could sing any part but always preferred to sing bass.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Roy and Belle Cullip, sister Phyllis (Dean) Hill, brother Howard Ellsworth, sister-in-law Carol (Arnie) Gemaehlich, and brothers-in-law Art (Donna) Cullip and Gene Lasley.

Les is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bev; son Rod Ellsworth, daughter Deb (David) Monheiser, two granddaughters Emory and Corryn Monheiser, brother Lew (Carolyn) Ellsworth, sisters-in-law Janet Ellsworth, Mabel Lasley, and Melody (Jerry) Shepherd, brothers-in-law Don (Linda) Cullip and Jerry Cullip, and many nieces and nephews.
