Leroy Edgar Binder, 89, of Sterling passed away Friday, April 10, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, at Riverside Cemetery Columbarium Niche with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church with Deacon Ro Fesser officiating.
Leroy was born on October 7, 1936, in Excello, Missouri. He was raised near the town of Callao, Missouri with his two brothers and 3 sisters on the family farm. He helped his father farm and during his high school years he worked at a service station.
Leroy graduated from Callao High School in 1954. Upon graduation, Leroy enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955. He was attached to the 174th Fighter Squadron as an aviation mechanic. He was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Ocean for 9 months and various other locations. He was honorably discharged on May 15, 1959.
In 1959, he started working for Murphy Finance Company in Kansas City, MO. In 1964, he was transferred to Colorado. He then started his 40-year banking career in the Denver area.
On June 18, 1966, he married the love of his life Naomi Ruth Johnson at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hildreth, Nebraska. They had two sons, Stephen Frank and Douglas Eugene.
In his younger years he helped coach a Little League Football team. He was a member of the Golden Colorado Lions Club, and he enjoyed restoring old cars and did volunteer work. In 2001, Leroy retired and they moved to Sterling, CO.
He is preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Goldie Binder; brothers Gene and wife Liz, and Jerry and sisters Shirley Flaa, and Karen Dillie and husband Jim.
Leroy is survived by his wife Naomi; two sons, Stephen (Julie) of Pahrump, NV and Douglas (Kristie) of Canyon, TX; grandchildren Kaycee (Owen) Griffith of Arlington, VA, and Teagen Binder of Canyon, TX; sister Brenda Wede of Exira, IA; sister-in-law Carol Binder of Archer, MO; brother-in-law Don Flaa of MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
