Lera Mayfield Karp, 88, died May 26, 2010, in Sterling after a lengthy illness. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Church of the Nazarene, 1600 Sidney Ave., with the Rev. Dale Wesley officiating.

Mrs. Karp was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Anson, Texas, to Marvin Abraham and Ida Pearl (Story) Mayfield. Her siblings were Vernon Mayfield, Viola Howell, Arnold Lee Mayfield, Harvey Mayfield, and J.C. Mayfield.

On May 22, 1940, she married Edward O. Kirkland in Waurika, Okla., and they were later divorced.

She worked at Woolworth's for many years as a retail sales clerk.
She married Fred Karp Jr. on March 18, 1972.

Mrs. Karp attended the Sterling Church of the Nazarene.

Mrs. Karp is survived by her son, Edward O. Kirkland Jr. of Custer, Wash., daughter, Ann Kirkland Bloomfield and husband Carter of Sterling; granddaughter, Julie Bloomfield of Cheyenne, Wyo.; grandson, Jeff Bloomfield and wife Jonna of Sterling; Lara Kirkland of Denver, and great-granddaughter; Janaya Bloomfield of Sterling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John Marvin Kirkland (1975); husband, Fred; and all of her siblings.
