LaVera K. Walker LaVera K. Walker, 99, of Sterling and New Raymer, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, in Sterling. Visitation will be today, Tuesday, June 15, until 5 p.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, Sterling. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at New Raymer Baptist Church, New Raymer. Inurnment will be a the New Raymer Cemetery.
LaVera Kathryn Silvis was born in Putneyville, Pa., March 12, 1911, to James and Ida Mae Saxman Silvis. She came with her family to Buckingham at the age of 5. She attended school at Buckingham, graduating with the class of 1930.
On Jan. 22, 1934, she was married to Ben L. Walker in Fort Morgan. She lived in New Raymer until October 2005 when she moved to Devonshire Apartments in Sterling, where she lived until her death.
She was blessed with four children: Loma Jean Castor and her husband Gary from Sterling, Dorene Mae Branning and her husband Sonny from Kosciusko, Miss., Blaine Le Roy, deceased in 2001, and his wife Connie Heifner Walker of Yuma, Ariz., and Lendyl James and his wife Deb Holzworth Walker of New Raymer.
Vera was a homemaker. For 65 years she was a member of the Christian Church and then they affiliated with the Free Evangelical Church and then the Baptist Church there in New Raymer. She was a Lions Club Lioness in New Raymer when the club was chartered with 49 members in 1949. She was always very active in all of the community activities.
Vera is survived by her three children, Jean, Dorene and Jim and daughter-in-law Con; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben, Feb. 15, 2001; a son, Blaine, Feb. 4, 2001; a grandson, Dusty Branning, Oct. 8, 1993; and a granddaughter, Kasey Jo Warner, Oct. 3, 2007; three sisters, Mildred Henderson from California, Veda Sebring from California and Dorothy Ruyle from Greeley; and three brothers, Bill, Paul and Byron, all from California.
