Larry Alfred Flesner, 78, of Sterling, CO passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, November 9, 2023. A closed casket funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 17 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Pastor Kelly Huenink officiating. Following the funeral service, Larry will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.

Larry was born February 26, 1945, in Sterling, CO to Alfred Ernest Flesner and Ruth Alice (Harns) Flesner. In Larry's younger years, the family moved to Orient, South Dakota before returning back to Sterling to farm in the Graylin area. Larry attended Sterling High school until he enlisted in the Army in early 1963, where he served in the infantry in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in December of 1965.

Larry met the only woman he would call his sweetheart while in the hospital in 1962. Delores was his CNA. Larry took Delores Helen Applehans as his bride on June 4, 1966. They were married 57 years, living 54 of those years in the same house raising their family of one daughter and one son.

Larry enjoyed retirement after working many, many years as a roughneck on drilling rigs, as a water well driller for Stewart Drilling, and as an employee of the Sterling Beef Plant.

He was an avid outdoorsman with the most pleasure either on the lake with his flyrod or in the woods elk hunting. He enjoyed following the Denver Broncos and Colorado Buffaloes. Some years more than others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David and Donald, sister Betty Jo Osborn, and daughter Laura Ann Bretz.

Larry leaves behind to mourn his loss, his wife Delores and his son Jim (Tammy) Flesner, five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren with one coming in February.
