The following was written by our Dad in preparation for this day:
"I was born February 14, 1934, in Sterling, Colorado to Kenneth and Agnes (McLane) Weatherill. I lived on a farm southwest of Willard, Colorado till six years of age. I lived in Merino for the next nine years and attended Merino Schools through the 9th grade. I moved to Ft. Collins in 1949 and attended Ft. Collins High School in10th and 11th grades. I moved back to Merino to live with my grandparents, Harry and Anna McLane, and graduated from Merino High School in 1952. I worked for grandfather on the farm and in the fall went to work for Great Western Sugar in Sterling til fall of 1953, then was drafted into the Army and was stationed at Ft. Ord, California and Ft. Lawton, Washington as Operations Sgt. with the 513TH Artillery Aircraft Battalion. I was discharged in July 1955, at which time started on Grandmother's farm, working Campaigns at Great Western Sugar.
I married Joyce Weatherill of Willard, Colorado on May 31, 1958. From this union, three children were born: son, Bryan and daughters, Suzy and Stacey. I continued to farm and in 1962 went to work full time in the Purchasing department as Storekeeper for the Great Western Sugar Company in Sterling. In 1986 after the Sterling plant closed I went to Western Sugar Coop in Ft. Morgan, Colorado as Pulp Dryer foreman and then back to the storeroom. I worked a total of 52 years in the sugar industry; 32 years in Sterling and twenty more in Ft. Morgan. I served on the Merino School Board for eight years, members of Elks #1336 and American Legion Post 0020.
Joyce and I moved to Ft. Morgan in 2003 and after her death in 2011 moved back to Sterling. I was an avid sports fan following the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, CSU sports and Merino school sports watching his children and grandchildren."
