Kenneth 'Ken' J. Heimbegner

Kenneth "Ken" J. Heimbegner, 68, of Sterling, passed away March 11, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Chaney-Reager, with Harry Cadle officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
Ken was born May 3, 1939, to John and Ernestine (Stark) Heimbegner in Sterling. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1958 and attended Northeastern Junior College.
On Nov. 29, 1963, he married Rita Louise Kloberdanz in Sterling. They farmed and resided in Atwood. Upon Ken's retirement, the couple moved to Sterling.
Ken enjoyed reading Western novels and watching Western movies. He was an avid history buff who was well-versed in Plains Indian lore.
He always enjoyed going fishing with his nephew, Josh Gentry, Josh's wife and children. He loved spending time with and teasing all his nieces, nephews and their children. He is the adopted "great-grandfather" of Mathias McBride and Jaylyn McBride.
Ken is survived by his wife, Rita Heimbegner of Sterling; brother, Robert Heimbegner and wife Jane; sister, Barbara Gentry and husband Bruce; godchild, Kristin McBride; mother-in-law, Louise Kloberdanz; 63 nieces and nephews and 55 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ernestine Heimbegner, and father-in-law, Joseph Kloberdanz Jr.
