Obituary

Kathy Ann Mackey, 65, passed away Monday, October 8 th , 2018 in Sterling, CO. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 15 at the Berean Church with Pastor Daniel Holsten officiating. The service will conclude at the church.

She was born in 1952 in Sterling, and was raised in a loving family by her parents Harley and Virtiadean (Knox) Sullivan. After graduating from Sterling High School in 1971, Kathy embarked on a life of service to others, starting with a dedicated nursing career of 41+ years.

She was married to Dr. Jack Mackey for 25 years. After his passing, she began a relationship with Jake Schneider, and the two were perfectly paired ever since. Kathy and Jake forever gave of themselves, their time, & their home, with Kathy at the helm cooking, loving, hosting, and sharing with family and friends alike. She was happiest when spreading her generosity to those she loved- arranging flowers for a wedding, stealing babies for a snuggle, working at the Sale Barn, and feeding cowboys at the rodeo.

Kathy was the embodiment of love and light. She was known for the warmth of her hugs, the ease of her laughter, and the endless reach of her heart. Every person was made better by each encounter with her kind and loving spirit. She didn't have mere acquaintances; if she knew you, she loved you, and you were family. No one left Kathy's presence without a huge hug, a kiss on the cheek, and a heartfelt "I love you."

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Dr. Mackey, father-in-law Herman Schneider, sister-in-law Dianna Lawler, and sister-in-law Janet Sullivan.

Kathy is survived by her cherished husband Jake Schneider, sons Shane (Candace Osborne), JR (Paige), granddaughters Hunter and Quinn, brothers Don Sullivan (Laura) and John Sullivan, sister Jan Bartram (Barry), sister Karen Wernimont, mother-in-law Georgia Schneider, special family Casey Payne, (Missie & Brynlee), Kimmy Ward (Ben), many sisters and brothers in law, adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and godchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's fund or to the Kathy Mackey Memorial Fund c/o Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, PO Box 1046, Sterling, CO 80751, which will be used to dedicate a memorial bench for Kathy.
