Joyce Elaine (Pyle) Jones, 90, of Sterling passed away on Thursday January 5, 2023, in Sterling Colorado. A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on January 16, 2023. Joyce's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home in Sterling with Pastor Kristie Firme officiating.
Joyce was born October 20, 1932, in Sterling CO to Denzle and Eunice (Blaine) Pyle. Raised on their farm, Joyce attended grade school and graduated from Iliff High School. She graduated from Northeastern Junior College with an Associates of Arts degree. Joyce was a homemaker, full-time Avon representative, a dedicated gardener, and loved quilting and researching her family genealogy. She received recognition for many activities and was proud of her advocacy for the Colorado Safety Board Campaign for Seatbelts, traveling across the state. A lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church, she led several efforts for community outreach including Cooperating Ministries Food Drive, stuffed animals for law enforcement children care and the annual bazaar.
Joyce met the love of her life, Gerald Jones, the brother of her co-worker Leona (Jones) Willsey. Leona and Joyce both worked at the lunch counter of Sterling's Woolworth store. Joyce and Gerald were married in Sterling on May 28, 1953. She is preceded in death by parents Denzle and Eunice Pyle, husband Gerald, sisters Glennis (Pyle) Lechman and Janice (Pyle) Miles, and brother Don Pyle.
Joyce is survived by her sons Daniel (Laurie) Jones of Sterling, Colorado and Douglas (Lisa) Jones of Shelley, Idaho; sister Norma (Pyle) Yates of Arvada, Colorado; brother Jim (Juanita) Pyle of Greeley, Colorado; sister-in-law Joann Pyle of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Joshua (Lynn) Jones of Everett, Washington, Alicia (Clayton) Palmer of Shelley, Idaho, Amanda (Nick) Bass of Eudora, Kansas and Jonathon of Fairplay, Colorado; six great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces, her nephew, Mark Lechman of Sterling, and his family were a great source of help to Joyce over the last few years.
