Josephine (Hoozee) Monheiser, 80, of Crook, died in her home Friday, April 6, 2012. Visitation will be until 6 p.m. today at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with Recitation of Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, in Julesburg, with Fr. Joseph Tran celebrating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. Everyone is invited to attend a meal following the graveside services at the Elks Lodge, Sterling.
Josephine was born on Oct. 28, 1931, in Sterling to Constant and Margarette (Hentreep) Hoozee. Josephine and her twin brother Joseph were the first set of twins to be born at St. Benedict's Hospital in Sterling. She grew up on a farm near Stoneham and graduated from Stoneham High School in 1949.
She married Albert Monheiser on April 12, 1951, in Sterling. After their marriage, Albert went into the service and Josephine worked in Sterling. Upon Albert's discharge, the couple moved to Crook where they owned the Crook Tavern from 1953-1958. After that they owned Crook Drug from 1958-1969. They began farming in 1960 while still operating the drug store. Josephine continued to help with the farm and cattle throughout her life.
Josephine was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Josephine loved her children, grandchildren, farming, reading, and polka dancing.
Josephine is survived by her children, Bob Monheiser of Crook, Peggy Wright and husband Kent of Sterling, John Monheiser and wife Ronda of Crook, and Lori Franzen and husband Tim of Sidney, Neb.; Bob's children, Bobbie Jenik and husband Ryder and their daughter Halle Josephine of Sedgwick, Andi Monheiser and her son Ben of Sterling, Joe, Jena, and Kelli of Crook; Peggy's children, Rochelle Wright and fiancé Cole Hickert of Loveland, Doug Wright, and Alyssa Moss of Fort Collins; John's children, Adam, Mason and Alex of Crook; and Lori's children, Adam Franzen and son Jackson of Broadwater, Neb., Tiffany Franzen and sons Levi and Gabe of Bellevue, Neb., Christina Franzen, Nicole and Spencer Neugebauer of Sidney; two sisters, Susie Gertge and Harriet Huss, both of Sterling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents; infant twin brother, Joseph; and brother, Frank Hoozee.
She will be dearly missed.
