John Wilbur VanDusen, 78, of Sterling, passed away Aug. 29, 2012, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Riverside Cemetery, with the Rev. Jared Sonnenberg officiating.
John was born Jan .16, 1934, in Sterling to Guy W. and Lois (Shields) VanDusen. He attended Sterling schools. He entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.
John was a truck driver through the years.
He was a member of First Christian Church, BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336, American Legion Post No. 20 and the Western Teamsters Union.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Miller and husband Drew of Griffin, Ga.; sons, John Paul VanDusen and wife Kerry of Midland, Texas, Brent VanDusen and wife Krisha of Eudora, Kan., Troy VanDusen and wife Carol of Watertown, S.D.; sister, Shirley Hounshell of Sterling; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hubert VanDusen; and sister, Jean Rowan.
