John William Smith, 100 of Sterling, was born Dec. 15, 1912 in Elwood, Neb., and died Thurs., Feb. 28, 2013 in Sterling.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thurs., March 7, 2013 at Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Bigler III officiating.
John married Irene Sawdey on Nov. 6, 1934 in Sidney, Nebraska. He was a farmer thru the years. John was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge No 1336.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene (Sawdey) Smith; his parents Arthur and Ruth (White) Smith; one brother and one sister.
Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter Carol Duke of Sterling; grandson Jon Duke of Sterling; granddaughter Kim Lewis and husband Ben of Watertown, S.D.; and great granddaughter Lynelle Nichols and husband Aaron.
