IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Edmond
Mcmahon
December 12, 1966 – June 14, 2022
John Edmond McMahon, 55 of Sterling passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, with his family and loved ones by his side. A celebration of John's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18 at the SBO Majors Baseball field in Sterling. Please wear your favorite baseball attire to the celebration to honor John and bring your own chair as seating in the bleachers will be limited.
John was born December 12, 1966, in Ft. Collins, CO to Bruce McMahon and Eileen Ann (Foutch) McMahon. He graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 1985. John married Suzanne Goetz on February 14, 1994, in Denver.
John and Suzanne bought the J & L Café and took ownership on July 1, 1998. From the beginning John and his family decided to be involved in the community of Sterling. While the kids were still young, John loved to coach his sons in baseball. He was a strong supporter of the New York Yankees, and any and all local teams from t-ball to NJC. Every year at the fair, you'd always find him racing into the auction, usually with his apron on. If people needed help, John always said YES. John took so much pride in training and mentoring almost every employee they'd ever had.
John didn't know a stranger and was fast friends with everyone he met. He always believed people deserved a second, third, and fourth chance. He hired anyone willing to work. His quiet, constant, humble, sweet character was a constant for us all. He lived the kind of life he wanted to live.
He was a devoted father and grandfather, and almost nothing gave him more joy than being "Papa John". During the pandemic, we realized quickly that no one was coming to save us, so we had to save ourselves and each other. The free meals were an automatic response by our entire family, and we never looked back.
John loved to go fishing at the pond whenever he found a free moment. He found great joy going to work, consistently. He had the true formula to figure out "living the dream", and he absolutely lived it. The J & L family became John's family, and he loved and appreciated every single one of you. John was an incredible husband and best friend, and Suzanne was blessed to be his partner every day.
He is preceded in death by his mother Eileen.
John is survived by his loving wife Suzanne; children Trevor McMahon and wife Jaiden of Sidney, NE, Coby McMahon and partner Vanessa Hernandez, Andrea McMahon and partner Mae and Erika McMahon and partner Andy Scott all of Sterling, CO; grandchildren Molly Jo, Arriana, Aaurian, Tripp, Emmarit and Zoey; siblings Kent McMahon, Kathleen McMahon and Scott McMahon and John's special canine friends Ethel, Millie and Munson.
The family respectfully requests that no flowers or plants be sent and that those that wish can make contributions in John's memory to Sterling Baseball Organization, PO Box 1533, Sterling, CO 80751.
