John Edward Mayfield, 59 of Sterling crossed over to his brand-new life on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. A celebration of John's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 14, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Pastor Kent Davenport officiating. To honor John, the family has asked that those attending please wear camo and jeans, no ties, or suits! The service will conclude at the chapel.

John was born September 22, 1962, in Brush, Colorado to Donald Leonard Mayfield and Betty Joan (Lintner) Mayfield. He received his schooling in Sterling, CO.

John moved to New Mexico after his schooling and worked for the state for a few years. He then returned to Colorado where he met his wife Kathy Flahive, and they started their life together. He worked at Walmart for 28 years where he made many friends.

John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He would always talk about the one that got away, whether it would be deer, fish, or goose; and he always laugh about it.

John was also a weekend BBQer. He loved cooking for his family as he told his stories. John didn't mind sharing his belongings, but always with a stern warning "Better not come back broken."

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathy, son Christian Flahive, paternal grandparents Woodrow John and Nina Faye Mayfield and his maternal grandparents Harold Edward & Mildred Eva Lintner.

John is survived by his two daughters Kelsey Ann Baker and Alycia Lara Mayfield; mom Betty Lintner Mayfield Townsend, dad Don Mayfield & wife Ilene; sisters Donna George (Joey Richard), Carrie Pesek (Ricky), Joann Mayfield (Luchia Fitzgerald); his dearly loved dog Boo and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
