John Patrick Gillott, 66, of Sterling, died June 25, 2009. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with services concluding at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Gosser officiating. Cremation was chosen.
Mr. Gillott was born Feb. 9, 1943, to Pat and Margaret (Pearce) Valentine in Kinston, N.C. He grew up in a military family and lived in many states. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 and served overseas. His favorite place to be was Hawaii during the service. He was discharged in 1965.
He married Marna Benson in 1965. They lived in Denver, where he owned two tire businesses. In 1976, the family moved to Sterling, where Mr. Gillott was employed by Foxhovens Tire Co. He continued to work there until his passing.
Mr. Gillott loved all his coworkers and customers. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Trenton.
He is survived by his wife, Marna Gillott of Sterling; son, Sean Gillott of Sterling; daughter, Courtney Gillott of Sterling; grandson, Trenton Gillott of Sterling; sister, Ellen Martinelli of Denver; brother, Stephen Gillott of Denver; five nieces, two nephews and numerous other family members.
Mr. Gillott was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Gillott; father, Pat Valentine; stepfather, John C. Gillott; and brother, David Gillott.
