John O. Gandee, 64, of Atwood, died Feb. 16, 2007, in Aurora after a short battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger McGlaughlin officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 20.
Mr. Gandee was born April 12, 1942, in Denver to Joseph and Blondena (Ballinger) Gandee. He was raised and educated in Sterling.
From 1960 to 1963, he served in the U.S. Army with the 5th Infantry Division. He earned the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1966.
On June 17, 1964, he married Betty Ann Meyer in Sidney, Neb. Since 1994, he was a self-employed electrician with Gandee Electric Co.
He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, astronomy and playing his guitar. His biggest joy in life was his grandkids.
Mr. Gandee is survived by his wife, Betty Gandee of Atwood; sons, John Gandee of Loveland, James Gandee of Sterling, Jerry Gandee of Sterling; sister, Carol Teeter of Dailey; brother, Joe Gandee of Clarkford, Idaho; and six grandchildren, Karlie, Kyle, Brittany, Taylor, Peyton and Ayden.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
