John Frederick Coats, 69 of Lakewood, CO passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. No public service will be held. John will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.

John was born April 14, 1952 in Sterling, Colorado to Frederick Stewart and Dona Grace (Coats) Stewart.  He was later adopted by Elbert Wilson Coats, Jr. and Edith Alice (Howard) Coats.  He graduated in 1970 from Sterling High School in Sterling, Colorado.  He graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in 1986.  John was a Professional Engineer and worked for various companies in Colorado and Virginia before opening CES Civil Engineering Services in Englewood, Colorado in 1994.

He is preceded in death by his biologic mother Dona Grace (Coats) Adkins and sisters Penny Jo Adkins and Cheri Lynn (Adkins) Bryson as well as his adopted parents Elbert Wilson Coats, Jr. and Edith Alice (Howard) Coats Hyde.

John is survived by his sisters Marjorie Ellen (Coats) Artzer of Williamsburg, VA, Alice Louise (Coats) Kupilik and husband Michael Kupilik of Missoula, MT, and Kelly J. Adkins and wife Patrice Smith of Littleton, CO.
