Obituary

John A. Barton, 87, of Sterling, died Nov. 23, 2009, in Merino. Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. sunday, Nov. 29, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Vigil and Rosary Service to follow at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with military rites.

Mr. Barton was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Sterling to John M. Barton and Eva Mae Pomel.
He graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1940.
He married Helen Krull in Denver on Dec. 13, 1945.

He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed on the Saratoga during his service. He returned to John A. Barton Sterling and was co-owner of the Big B Drive-In with his wife Helen for two decade until 1970. He was a driver's license examiner until his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336, VFW Post 3541, Model T of America and Horseless Carriage Club of America. His hobby was restoring antique cars through the years.

Mr. Barton is survived by his son, Wayne and wife Janice of Arvada; daughters, Sue Lambrecht and husband Jerry of Sterling, Ann Barton and Bob of Sterling and Deb Hale of Australia; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and step-sister, Shirley Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in October 2009; son, Michael David Barton and a grandson.
