Joseph "Joe" Frederick Harty, 78 of Sterling passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 in Greeley. Visitation will be held from 10 am to 6 pm, Friday, August 3 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 pm. A funeral service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, August 4 at the First English Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard von Steinman officiating. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
Joe was born July 14, 1940 in Lowell, Massachusetts to Edward Thomas and Ruth Evelyn (Kearn) Harty. Joe graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1958. In 1959, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged from service in 1963. He graduated from Northeastern Junior College in 1968 and from Western State College in Gunnison, CO in 1971. He worked many years as a certified public accountant. Joe married Belva Darlene Pieper on May 22, 1960 in Yuma, Co. They divorced in 1976. Two children were born to this union, Michael and Victoria.
He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his children, and watching the activities the grandchildren and great grandchildren were involved in. He was a Den leader for the Cub Scouts, a longtime member of the Kiwanis International and the First English Lutheran Church.
Joe is survived by his son Michael Harty and wife Alana and daughter Victoria Frick and husband Robert both of Otis, CO; 2 sisters, Marilyn Livingston and husband Robert of North Andover, MA and Susan Raymond and husband Richard of East Hampstead, NH; 2 brothers, Edward Harty of Billerica, MA and Dennis Harty of Pelham, NH; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Belva Harty in 2012.
