Betty "Jeanne" Simmons, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, in Sterling, Colorado. Memorial service to be announced.

Jeanne was born May 24,1939 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Everett and Chlodene (Chain) Matlack. She grew up in Chase, Kansas graduating from Chase High School in 1957. She married Buddy Clune in 1959, whom she later divorced.

She lived in Berthoud, Colorado for many years, working at the legendary Wayside Inn Restaurant as a cook/baker. Jeanne moved to Sterling, Colorado in 1971, where she owned and operated the Dairy Creme ice cream shoppe. She accepted a custodial position at Northeastern Junior College where she worked for many years and later retired.

Jeanne was a lover of all critters, but especially kitty cats less fortunate. Jeanne's love for planting flowers and gardening provided a beautiful safe haven for many pets and homeless 'Pitty Pats'. Her hobbies included rock collecting, ceramics, "Jeanne" landscaping, a love of history and the Old West, football, golfing, being in the mountains, traveling with Jim and Mary, cooking, and music.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Chlodene Matlack, daughter Laura, and her sister Mary (Matlack) Kopfman.

Jeanne is survived by her son Jon Clune and wife Zelda of Rapid City South Dakota, many beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jeanne also leaves behind very dear and special friends in Sterling; her Coffee Group, Flood Buddies, Working Buddies from NJC, all her Neighborhood Buddies, and everyone else who considered Jeanne their friend.
