Obituary

Jean Ramey
Aug. 29, 1931 - June 9, 2007

Jean Ramey, 75, of Sterling, passed away on June 9, 2007. Closed casket services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with the Rev. Spencer Green officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Jean was born Aug. 29, 1931, to Raymond W. Mahoney and Wilma L. Lowder in Sterling. She spent her early years in Willard, where her parents owned and operated a store and her father was the Postmaster.

At the start of her freshman year she moved to Sterling and joined her sister, Pat, at Sterling High School. They lived with their Grandmother Lowder. Jean graduated with the class of 1949. Several of her classmates, "The 49er's," continue to meet regularly and not just at class reunion time.

In high school Jean met Vic Ramey, the man with whom she shared 55 years. Together they raised their children, always supporting them in their many activities. After years of living on the farm/ranch east of Sterling they moved to town.

Those early years helping at the Willard store came to good use when Jean took a position as a clerk at the 7-11. A smile and friendly conversation with her faithful customers and co-workers created wonderful memories. She remained in contact with many of them throughout her retirement.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great pleasure. She was proud of their varied interests and accomplishments. They knew she was always there to lend her support and give them unconditional love. She taught them the importance of family loyalty.

During the years Jean battled cancer she kept a positive attitude and never wanted to be a bother to anyone. Her wish was to visit family and friends in California, Kansas and Texas. Even though she wasn't able to travel, she shared those places through pictures and phone calls.

This giving mother, sister and friend will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jean felt strongly that children needed to be supported and have positive role models to help them become successful and happy throughout their lives. She spent countless hours helping her daughter and granddaughter prepare and become Miss Rodeo Logan County.

Jean is survived by her son, Tim (Brenda) Ramey of Wichita, Kan.; daughter, Rhonda Roth (Ron Smith) of Sterling; grandchildren, Trevor (Tanya) Ramey of Dalhart, Texas, Sarah Ramey of Canyon, Texas, Kassie Roth of Peyton, and Tom Smith of Greeley; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Addison Ramey of Dalhart; sister, Patricia Kerr of Santa Cruz, Calif.; in-laws, Richard (Marilyn) Ramey, and Virginia Watson; and three nephews and six nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Ramey; parents, R.W. "Mac" and Wilma Mahoney; and her brother, Edmond.

In honor of Jean's memory the family has chosen to establish a fund in support of the Miss Rodeo Logan County contest. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home or to P.O. Box 1571, Sterling, CO 80751.
