James "Jim/Bud" Joseph Svacina Jr., 96 was called home Thursday, March 30, 2023, in Sterling, CO. Viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 7 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Harry Cadle officiating. The service will conclude at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Sterling.

Jim was born on January 23, 1927, in Omaha, NE to James Joseph Svacina Sr. and Helen (Slegel) Svacina. His family moved to the Sterling/Willard area. Jim attended Willard school and graduated in 1945. He married his lovely wife Ethel Irene Worley on August 12, 1960, in Bunch, Oklahoma. He started his career at Great Western Sugar Company in Sterling and Goodland, KS. He retired after 25 years and worked at RE-1 Valley School District as head custodian at Sterling High School.

Jim was a very outgoing person. He enjoyed gardening and working with all of his trees at the "farm", listening to polka music and spending time with family.  He was also interested in weather watching and would often keep track of the weather patterns. During his time at the Sterling Living Center he had the pleasure of helping with the activities for the residents and sometimes had polka bands booked to play there.

Jim will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents James and Helen Svacina, his wife Ethel Svacina, brother George Svacina, sister Bobbie (Barbara) McKelvy and his beloved Scotty dog.

Jim is survived by his children Harold (Carolee) Cloud, of Haxtun, CO, Suzie Svacina, of High Springs, FL and Jeff (Mandy) Svacina, of Sterling, CO; grandchildren John (Amanda) Cloud, Allie (Mark) Manzanares and Sedona Niles; great grandchildren Lyric and Legend Manzanares and Carson Cloud; sister Helen Nab of Oregon, brother Charles Svacina, Oregon, sister Betty (Dick) of Hammond, Texas and sister Carol Svacina of Oregon.
