Irvin Edwin Lane, 93, of Sterling, died Feb. 8, 2007, in Sterling.
Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Lane was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Atwood to Simeon A. Lane and Julia J. (Stratton) Lane. He lived his entire life in Logan County.
On Dec. 20, 1936, he married Mary Maxine Lewis in Willard, Colo. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary before Maxine passed away in 1998.
Mr. and Mrs. Lane were original owners and operators, with their brother-in-law, Justin Jones, of the J&L Cafe and service station, which opened in 1938. The Lanes remained owners for many years, even after they leased the operation to others. He also worked in the service department of Holloway's for 29 years.
He was a lifetime member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and being with his friends at the Elks Club.
Mr. Lane is survived by his daughters, Sheri Dorney and husband Gaylord of Sterling and Rosalie Newton and husband Norman of Louisville; two sisters, Elizabeth Wells of Bakersfield, Calif., and Mary Spanjer of Fort Collins; seven grandchildren, Laura Brasel of Littleton, Elizabeth Brasel of Longmont, Julia Brasel of Englewood, Luke Smith and wife Stefanie of Schwabach, Germany, LaDaryn Backstrum and husband Mike of Longmont, and Josh Dorney and Sara Dorney, both of Sterling; six great-grandchildren, Whitney Newton, Alexander Brasel, Karra Smith, Lainie Backstrum, Elexa Dorney and Monique Contreras.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine Lane; daughter, Kathleen Heimbegner; and brothers, Archie Lane and Ralph Lane.
