Irene G. Maier, 92 of Sterling, passed away Tues., July 22, 2014 in Sterling. Memorial service will be Fri.,Aug. 1, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Rev. Jared Sonnenberg officiating and services concluding at the funeral home.


Irene was born Oct. 27, 1921 in Hillrose, CO to Jacob and Mary Schmidt Gelroth. She married Theodore Maier in 1938. With their family they settled in the Sterling area in 1956. A few years after her husband passed, Irene moved to Denver. She returned to Sterling taking up residence at the Bee Hive Assisted Living where she lived comfortably, taking an avid interest in all the activities and services the 'Hive offers their residents.

Irene is survived by her children Patricia Lanier, James Maier and wife Mryna, Catherine Peters and husband Jack, Paul Maier and wife Teresa, Ron Maier and Ken Maier. Irene's grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren will remember their "Grandma" – who was always there for them and very much involved in their lives.

Preceding Irene in death was her husband, parents, sisters, brothers, son-in-law Gene Lanier and two grandsons.

Memorials can be made in Irene's name to the Disabled Veteran's Association, the American Humane Society, or a charity of the donor's choice.
