Irene E. Hendon, 95, of Sterling, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Young officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hendon was born Nov. 1, 1912, to Parker and Anne (Snyder) McCoy, in Omaha, Neb. She started her schooling in Omaha. At an early age, the family moved to the Greeley area, where she continued her education.
On Aug. 5, 1934, she married Glenn T. Hendon in Greeley.
In 1939, she moved to Sterling, where she worked in retail sales at JC Penney, Jones and Conrads clothing stores. She was a hospital pink lady, working in the gift store for several years.
Mrs. Hendon was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, VFW Auxiliary, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to crochet and attend her grandchildren's many activities.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Fix and husband Howard of Haxtun; son, Max Hendon and wife Linda of Lakewood; sister, Trudie Dunbar of Central City; sister-in-law, Lurene McCoy of Aurora; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hendon was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hendon; and son, Glenn Hendon Jr.; one sister; two brothers; and one great-granddaughter, Nikki Lynn Fix.
Memorials may be made to Zack's Legacy, a youth cancer foundation.
