Iona Violet Carrasco, 90, of Sterling, CO passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 24th at St. Anthony Catholic Church with The Very Reverend Michael Bodzioch as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Iona was born October 7, 1934, on the reservation at Rosebud, South Dakota to Harry Charles Left Hand Bull and Mercy Gertrude Turning Bear.
She received her GED in Sterling, Colorado and attended NJC where she received her certification as a counselor. She worked at Centennial Mental Health Center for 5 years and was an AA sponsor and volunteer at the prison. She enjoyed walking, reading and taking care of her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son Jesse J. Carrasco Jr. and her daughters Victoria May Carrasco and Yolanda R. Naylor.
Iona is survived by her daughters Yolanda R. Thompson of Sterling, CO, Genny Carrasco McCloskey of Rosebud, S.D., and Stella Carrasco of Lakewood, CO; grandchildren Nicole M. Hensman of Northglenn, CO, and Shad A. Wright of Aurora, CO; great-grandchildren Corynn Rose Hensman of Akron, CO, Eternity Violet Wright, and June Joy Wright both of Aurora, CO.
