Howard Ralph Meakins, 81, of Haxtun, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, in Haxtun. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. to the 10:30 a.m. service time Friday, Feb. 14, at Haxtun United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Barton officiating. Interment will be at Haxtun Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. Howard was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Denver to John William and Evelyn A. (Bellamy) Meakins. He graduated from South High School in Denver in 1950 and served in the U.S. Naval Air Force. Howard was a farmer and was a rural route mail carrier for 33 years. On June 18, 1954, he married Barbara B. Barkley in Fleming. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, El Jebel Shrine Club, Holyoke Masonic Lodge No. 81 A.F. & A.M., Sterling Masonic Lodge No.54 A.F. & A.M., was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and a 50-year Mason. Howard is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Meakins of Haxtun; son, Scott Meakins of Lakewood; daughter, Cheryl M. Poole and husband James of Wellington; sister, Vicki Lou Bamford and husband Gary of Denver; grandchildren, Tyler John Meakins, Lyndie Louise Meakins, Wyatt Emery Poole and Codi Mae Poole. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital.
