Homer Lee Roy Fowler, 74, of Sterling, died on Dec. 21, 2007, in Sterling after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Homer was born on Oct. 29, 1933, to Moses Burton Fowler and Glada Jane (Finney) Fowler in El Dorado, Kan., the eighth of 12 children. He attended Oil Hill School in El Dorado as a youngster. He has attended several reunions at the school and thoroughly enjoyed them.
As a Sterling resident for nearly 50 years, Homer touched many lives. His careers included roles as a seismographer, a salesman, and a driver, and he was known to work for businesses as a volunteer as well. For several years he worked a second job at a service station, in the days when gas stations truly provided service. Many stranded motorists were rescued by Homer on nights and weekends, even before the advent of pagers.
In recent years he rarely missed a local garage sale (buying treasures for others more often than himself), and he particularly enjoyed finding and fixing lawn mowers. Homer was known as a good friend to a lot of people.
Homer is survived by one son, Tom Fowler of Colorado Springs; three daughters, Cathy Fowler of Denver, Shari Callahan and husband Chris of Rockwall, Texas, and Sandy Kasahara and husband Rob of Overland Park, Kan.; three brothers, Ernie and wife Mary of Marietta, Ga., Jim and wife Mary of Independence, Kan., and Fred and wife Bev of Andover, Kan.; three sisters, Edna Johnson of Americus, Kan., Alice Bobbitt and husband Don of Wichita, Kan., and Juanita Myers of Wichita; sister-in-law, Helen Fowler of Fort Collins; brother-in-law, Jack Greene of Wichita; five grandchildren, Matt and Hank Fowler, Riley and Griffin Callahan, and Emma Kasahara; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Moses Burton "Burt" Fowler II and Glada Jane Finney Fowler; three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Benjamin; and two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Greene and Ruth Snell.
Memorials in Mr. Fowler's honor may be made to Northeast Colorado Cancer Resource Association, in care of Dorthea Nielson, Sterling Regional MedCenter, 615 Fairhurst St., Sterling, CO 80751.
The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the many health care providers and friends who have been caring for Homer during this difficult year.
