Herman Sommerfeld Herman Sommerfeld, 88, of Iliff, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John E. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Sommerfeld was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Peetz, to Albert E. and Mary (Clyde) Sommerfeld.
He was married more than 50 years to Gwen Hoschouer before her passing in July 1999. His passion was the wheat farm he spent 75 years growing and tending in the Peetz and Iliff communities and which he continued to work with his son until his death.
Mr. Sommerfeld was a founding member of the Iliff Lions Club, a life member of the Sterling Elks Lodge, and a member of First Baptist Church.
Mr. Sommerfeld is survived by his children, daughters, Judith K. Schneider and husband Ron of Iliff, Sheryl R. Gunter of Thornton; and son, Charles A. Sommerfeld and wife Peggy of Sterling; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Scott Schneider and son Seth, Mike Schneider, wife Rebekah and sons Tanner Hooten and Taylor Schneider, Robbie Schneider, wife Heidi, and daughter Ashley Westrand, Katie Reeves and husband "Chip," Shane Foiles and wife Tamara, Travis Sommerfeld, wife Kelly and daughter Hailey, Michael Milheim, wife Josie and children Joey Shortino, Giovanni Shortino, Natasha Milheim, Alex Milheim, Brooklyn Shortino Milheim and Triston Milheim, Jenni Krier, husband Tyler and children Jordan Gertner, Cordelia Rose Gertner and Ashton Krier.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters; a brother; one grandson; two nieces; two nephews; and a son-in-law.
