Herman F. "Shad" Schadegg

Herman F. "Shad" Schadegg, 77, of Sterling, passed away Sept. 16, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with vigil service and Rosary to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert L. Wedow officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
He was born May 11, 1931, to Herman Joseph and Ida (Haag) Schadegg in Haxtun. He graduated from St. Anthony High School.
Herman entered the U.S. Air Force in 1950, serving during the Korean War, and was discharged as staff sergeant in 1954.
He owned a service station in Sterling from 1954 until 1964, sold it and then owned and operated Shad's Restaurant from 1964 until 1984. He owned the Atwood Steak House from 1984 until the present.
On Dec. 27, 1953, he married Velma Bollish in San Diego, Calif. They had been married for 54 years.
Herman was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, VFW Post No. 3541, American Legion Post No. 20 and BPO Elks Lodge No. 1336.
He enjoyed outdoor activities, boating, fishing and watching his children's and grandchildren's sports activities.
Herman is survived by his wife, Velma Schadegg of Sterling; daughter, Starla Fredrickson and husband Robert and their children, John and Greg Fredrickson; daughter, Angela Lederhos and husband Thomas and their children, Lynsey and Lacey Reed; son, Curtis Schadegg and his son Brandon Schadegg; son, Dennis Schadegg and wife Suzan and their children, Andrew and Jordan Schadegg, all of Sterling; sisters, Alvina Lousberg, Eleanor Rigel and Lorraine Goss; and brother, Clarence Schadegg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ida Schadegg; brother, Ernie Schadegg; sisters, Edna Fiscus, Bernadine Rau, Alice Parady, Marie Schmeits and Arlene Williams.
