Obituary

Henrietta Josephine Huss, 93, of Crook, passed away Jan. 1, 2013, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, with Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 7 p.m., at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Friday, Jan. 4, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rev. Wojciech Gierasimczyk officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Henrietta was born April 1, 1919, in Heyst Aan Zee, Belgium, to Constant and Margueritte (Hentreep) Hoozee. She came to the United States with her parents in 1921 at the age of 2. She lived in Fort Morgan for several years while her parents labored in the beet fields, then moved to Stoneham where the family farmed. She attended a country school and later Stoneham School.

She went to work in Sterling.

In 1941, she met Jacob Huss; they married Feb. 11, 1941, in Sterling. She became a U.S. citizen in 1941.

The couple farmed for eight years in the Iliff area. In 1949, they moved to Crook to farm.

Henrietta was able to speak three languages. She was the royalty of the Crook Fair in 1997.

In 1982, she visited Belgium with her son, Tom, and brother, Frank.

She enjoyed doing embroidery work.

Henrietta was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Crook.

She is survived by her son, Jim Huss and his daughter Tina Huss of Sterling; son, Larry Huss and wife Dolly of Crook and their children, Lisa Datorre and husband Bob, Dena Gerk and husband Rich, Dave Huss and wife Jamie; son, Don Huss and wife Joan of Fort Collins and their children, Kristin Mivshek and husband Joe and Kevin Huss and wife Sharon; son, Joe Huss and wife Dian of Eaton and their children, Stephanie Huss, Stacey Ginsberg and husband Ed; son, Tom Huss and wife Brenda of Iliff and their children, Jonathan Huss, Amanda Huss, Daniel Huss and Jeffrey Huss; son, Gary Huss and wife Joyce of Holyoke and their children, Heather Bieber and husband Brett and Kurtis Huss and wife Liz; daughter, Joanne Parry and husband Steve of Sterling and their children, Kelli Huwa and husband Tyrun, Ryan Parry and wife Emily, and Traci Parry; sister, Suzanne Gertge and husband George of Sterling; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jacob Huss in 1972; grandson, James Huss Jr.; brother, Frank Hoozee; sister, Josephine Monheiser and daughter-in-law, Carole Huss.
