Hazel M. Blake, 84, of Sterling, died July 23, 2008, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Blake and her twin sister were born Feb. 16, 1924, to Robert and Lula (Johnson) Britt in Big Springs, Neb. She attended the Day School and Big Springs School. She earned her G.E.D. later in life.
On Feb. 14, 1942, she married Walter Blake in Sidney, Neb. She worked for Miller Western Wear, Deluxe Cleaners and did sewing at her home for many years.
Mrs. Blake was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sterling, VFW Auxiliary, Church Women United and Circle V at First Presbyterian. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, playing cards, ceramics and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Walter of Devonshire Acres in Sterling; son, Dale and wife Mary of Sterling; daughters, Lynda Rowlett and husband Clint of North Pole, Alaska., and Londa Henderson and husband Gary of Sweeney, Texas; brother, James Britt of Sterling; sister, Lucille "Lucy" McClain of Bondoui, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family with many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Blake was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lula Britt; brother, Robert Britt; and sisters, Bernice Danhauer, Opal Dale, Sylvia Smith and twin Helen McKinny.
