Obituary

Glenda Loree Castle, 85 passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, in Sterling, CO.  Viewing will be held from 2 pm – 4 pm Wednesday, March 19 at Halouska Family Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20 at Sterling Berean Church with Daniel Holsten officiating.
Following lunch, burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., at the Chappell Nebraska Cemetery.

Glenda was born May 26, 1939, in Chappell, NE (the second oldest of five children) to Glenn and Maxine (Miller) Hixon.

Glenda, Von, Jim, Leonard and Sandy went to Chappell to complete their education when the country school closed.

She met and married Gary Castle.  They graduated from Chappell High then moved to Ft. Collins where Gary obtained his BS in Science from CSU.  At 27, Glenda took the college entrance exam.  Once her teaching degree was secured, she accepted her first position in Atwood.  After Atwood closed, she was fortunate to teach with wonderful fellow instructors at Sexon Elementary, then to Hagen, finally finishing her 25-year career at the Sterling Middle School.  She loved teaching middle schoolers the most.  She enjoyed their energy and emotion.

Gary and Glenda moved their family to Atwood to fulfill their shared dream of owning a farm.  Irrigated farming became more difficult with age.  To further their love of farming, they purchased a dry land farm in Big Springs, NE.

Anyone that knew Glenda, knew the woman didn't have a shut-off switch.  She was a goer.  From sunup to sundown.  She absolutely loved to walk.  No distance too far…a country walk along the fields, a stroll around the neighborhood, or walking the aisles at Walmart.   We are sure she is doing laps right now.  We wonder how many miles she covered in her years on earth.

Glenda loved the Lord.  She was raised going to the Berea Lutheran Church nestled in amongst the Nebraska farmlands.  As a teen she attended the Methodist Church in Chappell, NE.  In her adult years she visited and enjoyed various churches as a devout Christian.

The years she spent on this earth were spent in service to others as a teacher, farm wife and mother.  Her memory will live within each person she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Maxine; husband Gary; brother Leonard (Keran) Hixon; and sister Sandra (Michael) Colloton.

Glenda is survived by her three children Gay Leigh (Mark Tracy), Gary (Charla Matthews), Gina (Dan Robbins); 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister Yvonne (Marlin) Clark; brother Jim (Barbara) Hixon; sister-in-law Sharon Beers, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank these people that have gone above and beyond in kindness… Sylvia Gertge, Ken Koester, Pat Wolever, Cindy Smart and the many at Harmony Home that have cared for mom…. beautiful, kind, generous people that have filled our hearts with joy.

No flowers, plants, or donations, please.  Your kind thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
