Glen J. Volcic went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 9, 2025, with his wife Eleanor by his side, as she had been for the last 74 years.
A celebration of Glen's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, at the Lighthouse Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Steimer officiating. The service will conclude at the church with military honors and a luncheon to follow.
Glen was born July 7, 1931, in Sterling, CO to John and Bernadine (Shade) Volcic. He was the 3rd oldest of 6 children, the youngest died at birth. He was the last of his siblings to pass away.
In 1950, Glen married the love of his life Eleanor Amen. Shortly after, he joined the Army and served 2 years in Germany. Eleanor stayed behind with family until he returned to California and served 6 years in the Army Reserves. They returned to Sterling after his service.
When they returned, Glen and Eleanor pursued their love for horses. They began breeding and raising thoroughbreds, traveling around to different races and working on building strong running horses. During this time, Glen did work in the oil fields and farmed; but mostly his life was all about horses. One of his proudest moments was winning the Colorado Breeders Derby in 1992.
Glen & Eleanor were faithful members of The Lighthouse Baptist Church for several years. They loved their church family, worshipping and their Pastor Justin Steimer.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Bernadine (Shade) Volcic; brothers Ronald and Bruce Volcic; sisters Ruby Turner and Jean Ward; brother-in-law Jerry Ward; sister-in-law Marie Volcic; in-laws Don & Mildred Bollish and Bob & Valda Roberts and Jack Amen; mother-in-law Leah (Wagner) Amen; father-in-law Dan Amen; nephews Bob Bollish and Larry Ward.
