Gladys Dorothy Schott
Dec. 7, 1908 - Jan. 17, 2008

Gladys Dorothy Schott, 99, of Greeley, formerly of Sterling, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. Public viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A family remembrance visitation will follow at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 21, at the Living Word Church of God, 605 N. Seventh Ave, Sterling. Pastor Victor Karg and Pastor Wayne Hasselquist will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Gladys was born Dec. 7, 1908, to Captain Roy and Pearl Baker in Marine City, Mich., where she received her early education. She attended Spring Arbor College in Michigan, majoring in business and graduating in 1929.

Following graduation, she was employed for three years as a legal secretary and receptionist in Jackson, Mich., and then as a switchboard operator for Michigan Bell Telephone Co.

In 1933, she moved with her family to Tucson, Ariz., and began conducting 10-day children's meetings for churches in Arizona, California, and Colorado, as well as holding vacation Bible schools.

She met her husband, Henry Schott, at the Church of the Nazarene in Tucson, Ariz., where he was stationed as an U.S. Army-Air Force staff sergeant. They were married on Feb. 15, 1947. After Henry graduated from seminary in Pasedena, Calif., they pastored churches in California and Colorado. They were married until his death in 2002.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Sherrel Monahan; son-in-law Bill Monahan; grandchildren, Rex, Cailan Matthews and husband Joshua, Meagan Schmidt and husband Andrew; great-grandchildren, William Schmidt, and Elias Matthews; brothers, Leland and Leroy Baker; and sisters, Melva Knaff and Katherine Woods.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Violet Carey, and Adeline Ponsford.

Gladys loved her family and her many friends, and was devoted to staying connected to them. She wrote letters daily on her typewriter for years, until her eyes failed her, and then she took to calling loved ones on the telephone with a cheery voice and words of encouragement. We will remember her for her constant sweetness of spirit, faithfulness in prayer, and readiness to praise her Lord in every circumstance. We rejoice that she is with Him now, seeing His face, hearing His voice, and running with new feet.
