As a War Veteran, Gilbert served his country in the Korean War in a special task force running heavy equipment. He was a generous provider instilling strong morals and traditional values in his family.   He provided many fun times with his family through his many interests of hunting, fishing, boating and snowmobiling. Gilbert was a gifted artist and woodworker. He created many intricately, detailed carvings out of walnut of replicas from significant machinery or modes of transportation from his life. For instance, his father's buggy, their first tractors, cars, or pickups, his D8 caterpillar, and a steam engine to name a few. His work was featured in COUNTRY Extra magazine.
