Obituary

Gerald Jacob Uhrig, 93, of Sterling, passed away Jan. 25, 2013, in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Wendy Kalan officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Gerald was born Jan. 27, 1919, in Sterling, to Carl and Marie (Karg) Uhrig. He graduated from high school.

Gerald farmed in the Fleming area all his married life. Gerald worked at Great Western Sugar factory for 30 years or more during the campaign.

On Jan. 9, 1941, he married Ellen Wiederspan in Sterling. A highlight for their married life was a trip to Hawaii to spend some time.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, BPO Elks Lodge 1336 and the Heritage Center. He enjoyed polka dances, fishing and animals.

Gerald is survived by his sons, Jim Uhrig and wife Judy of Otis, Ron Uhrig and wife Mary of Brush, Jerry Uhrig and wife Terry of Windsor; brothers, Raymond Uhrig and wife Zarith of Lompoc, Calif., Roy Uhrig and wife Judy of Loveland; sister, Rosie Way and husband J.J. of Billings, Mont.; brother-in-law, Dick Wiederspan of Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen Uhrig in 1987; sisters, Edna Hoppe, Lillie Gross; brothers, Alfred Uhrig, John Uhrig, Arthur Uhrig; and two nephews, Darrell and Doug Uhrig.
