Obituary

George Michael Borner, 72, of Sterling was born July 4, 1942 and passed away January 1, 2015. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian church of Sterling on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 11:00 am followed by military honors, a greeting by the family and a dinner.

George was born in Lincoln, Nebraska to Bill Borner and Irene Kesselring Borner. George's mother Irene died when George was 6 years old. Later his father married Lucille Moormeier, who became George's second mother.

George graduated from Sterling high school in 1960 and married Pat Grauberger, his wife of 51 years, on January 26, 1964. George served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, stationed most of that time in Germany, and his wife Pat was able to be there with him. After being discharged from the Army, George and Pat moved back to Sterling and started their family, welcoming their daughter Kristy Suzanne and son Chad Michael.

George was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, and among the many things he did in life, he loved reading, hunting, fishing, boating, arrowhead hunting, woodworking, assembling puzzles, and taking many trips to Lake Powell with family and friends.

George was very active in both the Sterling community and his church community. George served as an Elder and a Deacon at the Presbyterian Church, and he loved his church family. He dearly loved wife Pat, his family, his granddaughters, his life, and his country, and he touched the lives of everyone around him. He made this world a better place, one step at a time. He will be missed tremendously and remembered always.

George is survived by his wife Pat, his daughter Kristy Kaus and husband Stan, his son Chad and wife Sacha, his granddaughters Abby and Lizzy Kaus and Daisy and Sophie Borner, his brother William H. Borner and wife Marilyn, his sisters, Cathie Long and Linda Borner, adopted sister JoMari Lechtman, and very special friends, Cora and Bill Kaus and Pam and Rich Doyle.

George was preceeded in death by his father William Borner, and his mothers Irene and Lucille Borner.

The family is asking that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling, Colorado.
