George B. Bauder, 93, of Sterling, died Jan. 26, 2007, in Sterling. Visitation will be until 5 p.m. today, Jan. 29, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Chaney-Reager with the Rev. Derek DeToni-Hill officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Bauder was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Sterling to Jacob and Pauline (Frank) Bauder. He attended Green Dale School, and when the new Harding School was completed, he went there through the eighth grade, as he was needed to help at home on the farm where he grew up.
In 1941, he went to California along with several friends and worked at the American Airplane Factory. He later moved to Denver and worked at Gates Rubber Co. and Sheet Metal Co. He retired at an early age, but continued working, doing odd jobs for friends and neighbors, which he enjoyed.
In his youth, he attended the Kelly Evangelical Church. He was a lifetime member of the Sterling Elks Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking long walks. In his back yard, he had beautiful roses and several fruit trees and a vegetable garden. He enjoyed sharing his fruit and vegetables with his neighbors and friends.
In May 2001, due to his health, he moved to Sterling, living at Devonshire Acres.
Mr. Bauder is survived by his sister, Alma Lane of Sterling; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rudolph Bauder, Ted Bauder and Jake Bauder; and sisters, Bertha Stahlecker, Emma Suckey Smith, Nettie McMillan and Lenora Wilcox.
