Obituary

Genna Mae (Miller) Cinocco, devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, died, Wednesday, November 1, 2023, with her husband of 59 years, Nick, by her side. Until her death, Genna lived a life caring for those around her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 19th at 2pm.  Details will be emailed.

Genna was born on December 28th, 1943, to Douglas and Virginia (Rudkin) Miller in a hospital in Dubuque, IA, just across the river from where they lived in the small town of Cuba City, WI.  When she was 6, her family moved to Denver, CO, where she spent her childhood playing with her "sister" cousins and begging her parents for a horse.  Her father sadly passed away when she was 14 years old, and as an only child, she spent her teens as an original "Latchkey Kid", spending time after school cleaning up, doing homework and making Chef Boyardee dinners for her Mom who worked long hours.  She said that her experience as a latchkey kid was the reason she didn't want a career while her own girls were young, she wanted to be home for them when they came home from school.

After graduating from George Washington High School in Denver, she spent one year at the University of Wyoming.  She did not go back for her Sophomore year because she had fallen in love with Nick Cinocco, whom she had known for a long time but had recently started dating.  Although her Mom was initially displeased, over the years she realized that Nick was one of the best.  Nick and Genna were married on April 18, 1964 and after that, were rarely apart.

Soon Nick and Genna started a family and had three girls while living in Denver.  After their youngest was born, they wanted to leave the big city so they moved the family to small towns in Colorado.  They lived first in the mountain towns of Salida and Leadville, then to the eastern plain towns of Greeley and Sterling.   Genna followed Nick as he progressed his career at Public Service Company.  She took on jobs when she could, but never ones that would conflict with her desire to be home when her daughters got home from school.  But as her girls got older, she took well-loved jobs with Will Skow Photography taking school pictures throughout the Rocky Mountain States and with Cable, Inc. as the office manager, enjoying the work and her time with her great friends/co-workers.  She also devoted herself to serving the community, and enjoyed her PEO sisters and the time she spent as their Chapter convention delegate.

In retirement, Nick and Genna traveled extensively.  They traveled internationally to China, Russia, the UK, Europe, Mexico and Canada.  When they weren't learning how to scuba dive, bathing in the Blue Lagoon or having dinner with long lost relatives in Italy, they were exploring bucket list locations or playing cards with their lifelong friends.  They also traveled to every state in the US, purchasing an RV soon after retirement.  And although they couldn't drive it to Hawaii and didn't want to drive to Alaska, they were sure to knock those states off the list as well.  Later in retirement, they spent many joyful times at Cocopah Resort in Yuma, AZ.

Genna had a wonderful marriage and three great children, but she was the most passionate about her cats and her grandchildren.  Over the years she had six cats, never more than two at a time, and was a temporary foster mom to 8 more.  Her cats were spoiled rotten and due to her love and doting, they all lived much longer than cats should!  She is probably thrilled to be reunited with Tuffy, Peanut Butter, KC, BK and Sydney.

A slight notch above her love for her cats was her love for her grandkids.  Nothing gave her more pleasure than being their Grammommy, Little Grandma and Meame.  She loved to watch their games, go to their recitals, take them on vacation, bake with them, play games with them and just spend time with them during the holidays and at family gatherings.  In a world that isn't always kind, she showed them compassion and how to navigate life with resilience and a moral compass.

Genna will be remembered for many things, but above all for the love she showed in caring for her family.  She was preceded in death by her father and mother, and leaves behind her grieving family – husband Nick, daughters Andrea (Charlie), Valerie, and Stephanie (Joe); grandchildren Colby (Lauren), Madison, Andrew, Ginny and Nicholas; cat Sophie; and countless numbers of relatives and friends.

Genna loved flowers, so please feel free to purchase a beautiful floral bouquet for yourself and fondly remember her.  If you would prefer to donate, please do so in Genna's name to the Logan County Humane Society, 2250 Leisure Lane, Sterling, CO 80751.
