Obituary

Gayle Deloris (Writebol) Tappy of Sterling, died June 21, 2016 in Sterling after failing health. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, June 24 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with family greeting from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, June 25 at Christ United Methodist Church with Reverend Ed Bigler officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 pm on Saturday at Prairie View Cemetery in Stoneham.

Gayle was born September 28, 1936 to Gladys Estella (Hatter) and William Dennis Writebol in Washington, Kansas. In 1944, the family moved to a farm west of Sterling. Gayle attended Columbine School then attended and graduated from Sterling High School in 1954. Gayle graduated from Northeastern Junior College in 1956 and then graduated from the Colorado State College in Greeley.

Gayle was a teacher at Rockland School and Lincoln School and later did substitute teaching in the Sterling area.

On August 7, 1960 Gayle married Charles Davis Tappy of Stoneham, Colorado. They lived in Sterling until 1962 when they bought her parents farm west of Sterling where they resided until their deaths.
Gayle was a housewife and mother and helped with the farming in addition to her substitute teaching. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Alpha XI of Beta Sigma Phi, Trinity Sunday School class, Wonder Group, and the GNI Club. Gayle also did lots of various volunteer work in the Sterling community and for her church.

Gayle is survived by her son Bryan Tappy and his wife Janice of Sterling, daughter Cheryl Cooley and her husband Vince of Sheridan, CO. Four grandsons Christopher and Zachary Cooley of Sheridan, CO, Daniel Frank of Bartlesville, OK, and Joshua Frank of Blackhawk, SD. Also her sister Sharon Morris of Ogallala, NE, and brother Larry Writebol and Janice of Fort Collins, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gayle was preceded in death by her husband Davis (Oct 12, 2011), her parents, and an infant brother Norman.
