Floy Kathryn (Sniff) Christopher passed away February 26, 2015 in Sterling, Colorado. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First Christian Church in Sterling, Colorado.
Floy was born on October 13, 1930 in Las Animas, Colorado to Floyd C. Sniff and Viola M. (Swain) Sniff of rural Bent County, Colorado during the Great Depression.
Floy was the youngest of four children (Elmer, Maida and Jack). She grew up working and helping on the family ranch. Floy often recalled the hardships of growing up during the Dust Bowl era. She would often tell stories of how they endured during this time. The family was forced to move the cattle and themselves to Missouri for a short time in order to survive.
Upon returning to Colorado, Floy attended the Prowers Grade School and McClave High School. Floy then attended CSCE (now UNC) on a scholarship where she studied Elementary Education.
On November 19, 1950, Floy Sniff married Wilford W. Christopher whom she had known since high school. The wedding was performed at the bride's parents' home in Bent County, Colorado.
Floy was blessed with five children; Galen, Rita, Rex, Kurt and Kimi.
After living a short time on the eastern plains of Colorado, the family settled in Boulder and Longmont, Colorado.
Floy worked hard as a homemaker, making ends meet for the family. Floy enjoyed baking treats and sewing clothes for her family.
Floy moved to Sterling, Colorado in 1979 to her final home.
Floy was involved in many organizations. She volunteered with Cub Scouts, 4H, Campfire Girls, Special Olympics, and Rose Arbor (now Sterling Living Center). Floy was an active member of First Christian Church of Sterling, Colorado, Red Hats, the Elk DOES, Daughters of the American Revolution and may other social and charitable groups.
Floy inherited the love of travel from her parents. Her mother always used to say, "Money spent on travel is never wasted", words of wisdom she would relay and live by. She traveled to all fifty states and many foreign countries. She loved experiencing different cultures and interacting with the people.
