Florence Irene Hammond, 94 of Sterling passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, with family by her side. A celebration of Florence's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 14 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Pastor Kristie Firme officiating. The service will conclude at the chapel.

Florence was born June 15, 1928, in Akron, CO to Jake Thomas Hurt and Blanche E. (Combs) Hurt. She met the love of her life, Leland Hammond and they were united in marriage on August 15, 1953. Florence worked 28 years as a telephone operator for Mountain Bell.

She is preceded in death by her parents Jake and Blanche Hurt and Lee and Laura Hammond; sisters, Edna Hurt and Maxine (Rex) Goble and brothers Thomas (Betty) Hurt and Willis Hurt.

Florence is survived by her husband Leland; sons Terry Hammond of Sterling, CO and Randy (Melissa) Hammond of Mesquite, NV; daughters Kathy (Tim) Peterson of Sterling, CO,Kristi (Jeff) Peterson of Platteville, CO, Karen Simpson of Pinedale, WY and Kelley (Jess) Schneider of Sterling, CO; 34 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
