Eva Myrl Kent, 90, died May 30, 2014 in Sterling. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with Rev. Jodie Harless officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Myrl was born on a farm northwest of Atwood to Archie and Eva Squier April 21, 1924. She attended Atwood Schools, Northeastern Junior College and later earned Bachelor and Master Degrees from the University of Northern Colorado.
While attending NJC, Mryl met Cpl. Joseph Kent. Myrl and Joseph were married at her parents' home in 1944. After he returned from the Philippines and Japan the couple made their home in Sterling.
Myrl taught school for twelve years at the former Franklin School, eighteen years at Hagen and eight years in rural schools. She was a life member and held many of the offices in the National Education Association and was also a charter member of the Nu Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an Honorary Teacher Society.
She enjoyed traveling and sports but her greatest love was music. Her six sisters sang as a sextet and Myrl and her brothers accompanied them on the piano, guitar and harmonica.
Myrl was of Protestant faith and served as a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Caroline Squier, of Fort Collins and a brother-in-law, Donald Morgan, of Sterling; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; a twin brother, Vyrl Squier; sister, Norma Morgan; five other sisters and their husbands, Myrtie and Merris Craig, Jane and Alva County, Evelyn and Joseph County, Vura and Sidney County, Veldean and Lewis Country; and a brother Vadow and Irene Squier.
