Mom was a long-time resident of Sterling, moving to the community in 1953. Eula Mae worked at Sterling High School as secretary for many years (at least until she knew my friends and I would stay out of trouble at school and graduate). Most in Sterling will remember her as the District Court Clerk working in the justice system for 22 years. Retiring in 1993, she spent her time playing golf and cards, traveling a bit to visit relatives, shopping trips with the girls, morning coffee and donuts and doting on her twin granddaughters Jacque Kennedy and Lindsey Jackson, Lindsey's husband Max and their children, Hadley and Gavin. The grands, greats and many friends and their kids really kept her going for the past few years! My eternal thanks to all that shared their lives with Mom.
Growing up on a dry land farm in western Oklahoma during the challenging times for the Greatest Generation, Mom's work ethic and values were formed that matched the folks in Sterling. Mom used to talk about picking cotton, her mother making their clothes from flour sacks and a sister's dare to drink milk straight from the cow. Ever notice she never drank milk or used butter. Now you know.
Mom was both strong and compassionate, frugal (nearly to a fault) and giving, quick to correct Dad and me and forgiving and most of all, loving.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, five siblings and many nieces and nephews, my father Joe Green and many, many friends. When you're 96 just about everyone else beats you to heaven. Survivors are Robert (that's me), my wife Cheryl and the GRAND and GREATGRAND kids. At least Mom and I think they are GRAND and GREAT.
If you wish to do something in Eula Mae's memory, get out and spend time with your family and friends or just do something for someone like contribute to your favorite charity. That's who she was. We'll miss her.
