Esther M. (Foos) Hessler

Esther M. (Foos) Hessler, 98, of Sterling, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joyce DeToni-Hill officiating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Esther was born Nov. 23, 1909, to Elizabeth Hettinger Foos and Andrew Foos on the family farm near Bazine, Kan. She attended Highpoint Elementary School and Bazine High School.
She moved to Colorado in June of 1929 and made her home with her sister, Elizabeth Miller and husband John. She was employed at the Economy Store until her marriage to Ray Hessler on March 18, 1935.
Esther and Ray moved to the Church Ranch, four miles southwest of Atwood. In March 1941, they moved to the Pawnee Ranch west of Merino, where they farmed until their retirement.
Esther was a member of Glendale Baptist church in Bazine, and later transferred membership to Merino United Methodist Church. She was an active and faithful member of the Merino United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women from 1937 to 1988. She was also a member of the Merino Town and Country Club.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Carol Hessler Hutt; grandchildren, Jan Hutt and Dianne Forge and husband Greg; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Austin Forge; son, Thomas Ramirez and wife JoDell; grandchildren, Matthew, Debra, Maria, Christine, Tracy, Troy, Carole, Misha, Shaunda and their respective families; sister-in-law, Dorothy Foos; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, five brothers and one sister.
